About Us
Rescuing the history of our native wood
Legado Austral was born in 2021 as a response to the silent call of our native forests. At a time when deforestation and indiscriminate exploitation threaten to erase centuries of life, we chose to act: to recover centuries old wood submerged in southern lakes and rivers.
These logs, abandoned by the old forestry industry or deposited by natural events, are more than a resource. They are witnesses of history, guardians of time, and living memory of the southern forests.
What was once seen as debris or waste is now transformed into a sustainable legacy that honors nature and brings value back to our communities.
We are pioneers in introducing premium wood to the market, standing out for our ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY.
Our History
From the first log we recovered, we understood that each piece of wood was an opportunity to repair the mistakes of the past. This is not just about salvaging wood, it’s about restoring humanity’s relationship with nature.
Each recovery operation is an act of respect, a way to return to the present what the past left behind. With every log reclaimed, we prevent the cutting of a living tree and bring new life to a noble material capable of becoming furniture, structures, and unique pieces that will last for generations.
“We are repairing the mistakes of past generations and building a future where the conservation of our forests becomes the norm.”
What We Do and Why It Matters
– Recovery: we salvage centuries old native wood submerged in southern lakes and rivers.
– Transformation: we prepare the wood through sawing, stacking, and natural drying, without chemicals or toxic processes.
– Responsible distribution: we deliver it to artisans, architects, and builders committed to the environment.
A Unique Resource in the World
Thanks to decades underwater, our wood has developed exceptional qualities:
– More resistant and stable (less twisting and cracking)
– Free of pests and biological agents
– Dries naturally up to 70% faster
– Comparable in quality to pressure treated wood, but without the environmental cost of toxic chemicals
This makes it superior both in performance and sustainability.
Legado Austral and the Environment
Every recovered log is one less tree cut down. Every rescue operation is a direct action against deforestation.
We also reduce our environmental footprint through conscious practices:
- We avoid excessive heavy machinery
- We voluntarily measure our carbon emissions
- We avoid artificial drying, saving energy
- We do not alter the natural environment and we manage all waste responsibly
Our commitment goes beyond the local level: we are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), directly contributing to:
- SDG 12
- SDG 13
- SDG 15
- SDG 17
In this way, Legado Austral helps build a sustainable future, not only for Chile but in harmony with global environmental commitments.
Trust, Legality, and Transparency
At Legado Austral, we believe in the importance of backing up our words with concrete actions.
In a sector where illegal logging and irregular wood trading remain serious problems, Legado Austral stands out through legality and traceability.
We operate under the supervision of the Chilean Navy and CONAF certification at every stage. This ensures that every log, board, and delivery meets the highest ethical and legal standards.
Our Seal
More than a product, we offer a commitment:
- To the forests: we do not cut, we rescue
- To local communities: we prioritize local services and products
- To creators: we sell at fair prices so our wood reaches more creative hands
- To transparency: every operation and process is certified
Legado Austral is synonymous with trust, quality, and respect for nature.
A Shared Legacy
Today we are part of a movement of change alongside artisans, architects, builders, content creators, and brands that share our vision.
Together, we are proving that beauty, creativity, and environmental conservation can coexist in perfect harmony.
Legado Austral is not just recovered wood: it is history, it is future, it is a commitment to life.
